This website will help you find out about the University of Warwick Symphony Orchestra, whether you're a current student, applying to study at Warwick, a member of staff interested in music-making, or you simply want information about us.
The Symphony Orchestra society is made up of about 120 Warwick students and members of staff, as well as some associate members from outside of the University. We meet once a week for rehearsals on the University of Warwick campus and give concerts once or twice a term. Concert venues range from the University's prestigious Butterworth Hall to outdoor events and concerts held off campus in the nearby (and sometimes distant) area.
Most rehearsals occur at 7:00pm every Tuesday in the (newly redeveloped) Butterworth Hall in the Warwick Arts Centre, however when concerts draw near we often schedule extra rehearsals. Occasionally there are sectionals in place of full rehearsals. Please keep checking the 'Rehearsals' section of the website for details of the specific dates and times.
The UWSO tours biannually with the University Chorus, a group of around 200 singers. In Easter 2006 we went to Italy, visiting Milan and Venice and playing in Brescia and Mantua. Two years previously, the orchestra took off for a week-long free trip to India. In March of this year we toured to Belgium, where we performed in two concerts and visited various sites in Brussels and the surrounding area. Because there was a three year gap between this tour and the previous one, we will be touring in the Netherlands again next year!
